Kitchen Garden Project

An uninspiring little patch of Simon Balle School has been transformed into a glorious kitchen garden by some of our Year 11 pupils.

A tiny courtyard area outside the Art rooms and the Food Technology area was screaming out for renovation –  so a small group of Year 11 students set to work. After doing an initial design and plan they sought the  advice of Mudlarks (the Hertford community garden project)  who helped them build 3 raised beds.

The students then did all of the work required to fill the area with herbs and vegetables. The garden is now a wonderful resource for both staff and students.   Food Technology staff will be making full use of the array of herbs the students have planted  including Rosemary, Thyme, Marjoram, Mint and Chives.   The students have also grown (from seed) peas, Rocket, radishes, onions and various lettuces.

In addition the Art department will adorn the area with some of its marvellous sculptures.
