Welcome To The Larch Centre

The Larch Centre opened its doors to our first classes of reception students in September 2015. The building itself is light and bright but is warm and welcoming to our close community.

The Larch Centre staff are a hardworking, dedicated and enthusiastic team of professionals who believe that every child is an individual. The planning is personalised to suit every child in our care, ensuring a broad and balanced curriculum through interesting and inspiring topics. Our values drive all we do and encourage students to be respectful and understand the views and needs of others in our community. They learn how the values should be displayed both in and out of school and can articulate this behaviour in a positive and mature way. Our aim is to nurture and challenge the children so they grow into good citizens and have a thirst for learning.

As an All-through school we link closely with the secondary phase to enhance learning further. Our Sixth Form students volunteer on a regular basis to act as role models for our youngest students. After a training programme they support the class teacher with reading, small group work or 1:1 support for students with additional needs. Links have been made with departments where we take advantage of specialist teachers for weekly music lessons, Spanish language development, a well-resourced library and Physical Education including swimming from Year one. Other subjects are used to link the students together, such as Geography, for our annual Volcano Day with reception and Year 8 students. The Science department teach ‘entry points’ to Science topics and the outdoor classroom is used where the children can experience topic links such as pond dipping, fire building, minibeast exploration and a classroom space to learn outdoors.

As we continue the journey as an All-through School, further links will be made with the secondary phase. Having specialist teachers to further enhance the provision will benefit all students from the Larch Centre through to the Sixth Form.
