We are writing in these final three weeks of this summer term 2023 to look back at the incredible dedication and service that Mrs Saunders has given to Simon Balle All-through School over the last 26 years. Whilst it is almost impossible to sum up Mrs Saunders’ tremendous impact in words alone, it is important to reflect on the impact of her headship in this time. Her leadership has been, and is, quite simply an inspiration. A role model, sage and guide to every leader she has nurtured; a compelling and energising presence for every member of staff she has developed and supported; and – of course – a great influence in the lives of generations of students and their families. In her unique way, Mrs Saunders has made so many children and young people feel special and celebrated as individuals. Knowing them by name, taking an interest in them as people, she has touched their lives and always shown that here at Simon Balle, she, and all staff, are caring for them.

The ethos, values and vision that Mrs Saunders has created and sustained at Simon Balle makes this a very special place to be – and her legacy will, undoubtedly, live on in the hearts and minds of so many. It is with this in mind that we can now celebrate, with her, an outstanding all-through school, a first-class quality of education, and unique communities of learners who, over the last three decades, have embodied her vision ‘Creating tomorrow’s citizens today.’

We look forward to celebrating with students, staff, parents/carers, leaders and governors in the coming weeks.

This message comes with our inexpressible gratitude and with our utmost respect and admiration for all that Mrs Saunders has given to us.

Written on behalf of the whole community at Simon Balle All-through School
