Hello and welcome to Simon Balle All-through School
We know that a key part of the transition process, for students and parents, is to feel a sense of familiarity with their new setting. Hopefully you should find below the answers to some questions you have at this early stage.
Diary dates:
Thursday 21st August: GCSE results day and Enrolment begins
Tuesday 2nd September: New applicants (external Year 12 students) start at Simon Balle All-through School.
Wednesday 3rd September: First day of lessons for all Year 12 students.
Thursday 11th September 6pm – 7pm: Year 12 Welcome Evening for students, parents and carers.
Summer work
To support the transition to Sixth Form study, all subjects have set summer work to complete before September. This work is designed to help students:
- Bridge the gap between GCSE and A Level/BTEC expectations
- Begin developing subject-specific skills and knowledge
- Confirm that the subject is the right choice for them
Students will need to bring this with them to the first lessons of their course in September.
Uniform
At our school, we believe that smart business attire plays an essential role in preparing students for their future, fostering a professional and respectful learning environment. Sixth Form students are expected to set an example to the rest of the school through their high standard of business-like dress and the way they present themselves.
Our Sixth Form dress code encourages students to present themselves in a manner that reflects the standards of a modern workplace, maintaining the smart appearance established in the lower school years. By adhering to this dress code, Sixth Formers contribute to the positive ethos of our school, demonstrate self-respect, and set a clear distinction between social attire and the professional dress expected during the working week.
The expectation is that a Sixth Form student should be able to leave the school site and immediately attend a formal interview without needing to change their appearance. Further details on our dress code can be found on our school website.
Devices
We are a Google school and students will need their own device to use in September. This should be a chromebook, laptop or Macbook rather than a tablet.
