Guitar Platform – November 2023

23rd November 2023Mark Taylor

On Thursday, we celebrated Mr Niesyto's acoustic guitarists!

A brilliant variety of music, and opportunity for solo and ensemble performances.

The guitar platform is a concert showcasing what Mr Niesyto’s students have done that term. Most of the students perform a solo of their choice which is often their favourite piece they have done, it starts with the youngest player and progresses through the school years to show how the students develop. I normally do a solo of my most recent grade piece but I sometimes do a song and sing while playing the guitar. I love hearing the pieces that the other students do as there is always a nice variety of songs. After that we move onto the group performances. There are two groups, the first is all students playing and in the second, the more experienced students play in a smaller group. Mr Niesyto always chooses really cool songs for us to play; my favourite piece we have done so far is ‘smells like teen spirit’ by Nirvana because it is a really good song and a fun one to play. The group pieces are my favourite part of the performance because I love playing with the kids from all across the school. I always enjoy the guitar platforms because it is a really fun and supportive environment and the audience always seem to have a good time.

A Celebration of Singing & Secondary Strings – November 2023

15th November 2023Heather Morgan

On Wednesday, we celebrated Senior Strings, Chamber Choir and Secondary Choir!

It was an incredible evening of music - please enjoy the videos here!

I was very nervous on the day. I had a solo in the secondary choir. I sang the first verse in the song ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ and I loved the song. I feel it went well and my family told me I did a great job. My favourite part was when I was handed the microphone and I knew I was ready to sing. I was terrified but when it came I was fine and I really enjoyed it and recommend an experience like this.

Hazel, Year 7

As a member of the cello section in the orchestra, the highlight for me was performing the iconic James Bond theme. Each musician contributed to the symphony of sound, creating an incredible atmosphere. The collective effort of everyone involved made the performance truly remarkable, leaving a lasting impression on both performers and the audience alike.

A Larch Celebration of Music – November 2023

On Wednesday, we celebrated our Larch Musicians in Year 2 all the way to Year 6! The students produced such a high standard of music, it was a brilliant evening!

The running order:

Joint Choir Item Under the Sea
Year 2-3 Choir Sing a Song in Unison
Year 4-6 Choir Make Your Own Kind of Music

How far I’ll go - featuring olos from Eva & Toby

Larch String Orchestra Time to Tango

Sword Dance

Drunken Sailor

Larch Wind & Brass  Shake it off

Shepherd’s Hey

Brain Stew

On Thursday, I played the piano at the Celebration of Larch Music. I was slightly nervous as I've never played in front of a crowd on my own before, but I knew I could do it as I practised the piece enough times. My highlight was how proud I felt when I finished playing. It was a great experience and I don't think I'll be as nervous next time!
