Science has the power to stimulate students’ curiosity and create a sense of awe and wonder about natural phenomena. Our science curriculum, encompassing biology, chemistry and physics, is designed to give students practical experience through which to build a wealth of scientific knowledge and vocabulary, helping them to understand the world around them. Students will be encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes. Each new topic gives opportunities to ‘work scientifically’ with students encouraged to ask questions and seek out answers. Simon Balle students will develop important skills such as collecting and recording data, describing and explaining patterns and trends, as well as critically evaluating experiments. This prepares our pupils as they progress through our all-through school and beyond, equipped with the scientific knowledge and skills required to understand the uses and implications of science today and to develop into scientifically literate citizens for the future.
